Ertflix – 3 Movies You Must See Before They Download

--

Ertflix – Our opinion on ERT’s free platform is a given. We like. The three films you must see before they go down include the strange, surreal musical Annettedirected by Leo Carax and starring Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard. If you are looking for a portrait of modern Turkey you can find it at The wild pearone of the best movies to come out in 2018. While in The Man Who He knew the Infinite we enjoy them Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel to paint interpretatively depicting the true life of a mathematical genius from India.

The Wild Pear (2018)

The film of the 66-year-old Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan is one of the best drama films made in 2018. And if the length of the film tires you a little, be patient because a finale awaits you that will lift you up and reward you.

Ceylan seeks to find our origins in the multi-layered “The Wild Pear”, continuing the problematic of his previous films “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia”, “Three Monkeys”. And after the apple falls from the apple tree, he creates a conscientious and existential drama about “where does our hat come from” which competed at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and was Turkey’s official proposal for the 2019 Oscars.

If The Wild Pear had avoided some in-between – chatty and unnecessary – socio-political-religious analyses, the film could be characterized as a melancholic portrait of modern Turkey, the deep-rooted attitudes and rigid rules that run through its society as it digs to find the authentic roots of its thinking citizens, creating in the finale an existential elegy for human fate…

In the film our hero is the young Sinan who reluctantly returns after his studies to the village where he grew up and to his parents’ home. There he aspires to decide what to do with his future and try to publish his first book. As the days pass, Sinan wanders the almost suffocating microcosm of his village, meets relatives and friends, and slowly realizes both his dislike for his surroundings and his father – an irresponsible professor and family man, drowned in debt and with a weakness for gambling.

Directed by: Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Starring: Dogu Demircol, Murat Semsir, Hazar Erguklou

Annette (2021)

Leos Carax is a director – master of the “Cinema du look” (Cinéma du look) and in the surreal dramatic musical Anette he manages the talent of Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard with mastery. Some will find the work overwhelming, boring, arid. Some others (including us) enjoyed it.

An unconventional and self-destructive stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) and an internationally renowned soprano (Marion Cotillard) live a passionate love affair, have a mysterious little girl with a special destiny, Annette, but their relationship begins to crumble when his career takes the lower ride first.

Annette is a bitter cinematic tribute to narcissism. On the surface we sympathize with the daily tests that an artist must pass on stage. And inwardly we envy the universe of people who live creating, interpreting art. But what can happen when we come face to face with the dark corners of two artists who, although recognized, one of them collapses emotionally, psychologically?

Starring: Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard, Simon Helberg

The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015)

The play is about the real-life Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who as a mathematical genius traveled from his native England to share the research he conducted in the science in question, with a serious possibility of publishing it through the academic community of Trinity College.

Some of his theorems in the year 1920 have been studied since the beginning of the 21st century, with the aim of understanding black holes in space.

THE Jeremy Irons he embodies the role of the professor, who discerns in Ramanujan’s mathematical thought what others cannot at first see. This character is not very social. He doesn’t seem to trust people easily either. In fact, the academic world and more specifically the universe of mathematics, is the cause of a valuable and meaningful socialization for him.

THE Dev Patel who plays the charismatic Srinivasa Ramanujan stood out with his amazing performance in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
