The live commentary on Twitter (X) never disappoints and so today, while the African dust turned different regions of Greece orange, the users of the platform filled it with comments about the phenomenon.
Several residents of areas covered in the African dust liken the images captured on the streets to a movie set, as the sky has turned orange, an eerie image reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic scenario.
African dust: Dune came to Greece, ready for Mad Max, Athens, as we say planet Mars – What they write on social media
The posts are dominated by the films Dune, Blade Runner 2049 and Mad Max, known for their aesthetics and colors – but there are also those who write about… locusts and Wounds of the Pharaoh.
These films, however, are often used when apocalypse scenes arise, in Greece and elsewhere.
“How much money did they give to promote the new Mad Max movie?” one wonders, seeing the atmosphere reminiscent of the recent Fallout series.
Others liken Athens to Mars, saying that Elon Musk no longer needs to plan a trip to the distant planet…
Several users made humorous posts, saying they needed a camel to get out of the house, while others wrote that the color of the sky reminded them of… Donald Trump.
In X, “dust” has climbed to the top of the trends, following a mixture of concern, surprise, trolling and humor, in dozens of posts from many parts of the country.
Check out some posts on African Dust:
African dust appeared in several areas, including Athens, Messinia, Chania, Ilia, Corinthia, Achaia.
Forecasters predict that the phenomenon is expected to reach its peak on Tuesday night and from Wednesday it will start to clear.
Pulmonologists have issued recommendations to vulnerable groups, calling on citizens to be careful while the phenomenon lasts, limit their movements, close windows and, if necessary, wear a protective mask.
