Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale was noted in sea space off it Creteaccording to an estimate by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.

The epicenter of the earthquake is located 30 kilometers south-southeast of Zakros, in the prefecture of Lasithi.

The focal depth of the tremor, which occurred at 7:13 a.m. today, Saturday, is estimated at 4.7 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in many areas of eastern Crete, but also in Heraklion.

Efthymios Lekkas is reassuring

Speaking to ERT, the president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas, appeared reassuring, noting that this was an earthquake in a maritime area quite far from Ierapetra. He further noted that at this time, there are no reports of damage.

At the same time, speaking to the SKAI radio station, he said that “essentially one can say that it is an aftershock of the big earthquake that happened months ago in south-eastern Crete again in the same place”, while ruling out the possibility that it is connected to the earthquake in Samos.

3.8 Richter earthquake in Tyrnavos

It is noted that at 7:45 in the morning, this Saturday, an earthquake of 3.8 Richter occurred in Thessaly. The epicenter of the tremor is located 13 kilometers southwest of Tyrnavos.
