The Member of Parliament for Corfu and Head of the Tourism Department of SYRIZA PS Alexandros Avlonitis, issued the following announcement:
What Ryanair announced regarding the closure of its base at El. Venizelos of Athens for the winter season are a tangible example of the continued lack of government initiative, but also a negative counterexample to the attraction policies followed by other European countries.
The impact of such a development is obviously inhibiting both the creation of new jobs and the strengthening of tourist traffic, which perfectly serves the desired goal of extending the tourist season in our country.
The role of the Ministry of Tourism is decisive in the formation of overall incentives directly related to the tourist development programs of the Greek destinations, but also in the redefinition of the prices of charges and fees that make our country’s first airport competitive. Unfortunately, the Greek government has not understood this.
Mr. Kikilias has an obligation to formally respond to the objections of the removal of a hub air carrier, which will significantly weaken the tourism world’s honorable efforts to develop during the winter season.
To answer us what the Greek government did to prevent this event, but also how it plans to cover the size of the losses that will occur, given that such an eventuality has been foreshadowed for a long time since the company’s announcement.
