The unexpected death of the pseudo-mufti of Xanthi Amhet Mete and the passing of a law in Parliament for the modernization of the Mufti, has triggered many developments with unknown ramifications. The State has now institutionalized the new way of appointing a Mufti, who will be appointed by an advisory committee, composed exclusively of persons from the minority.
At the same time, the Muslim minority is led to the elections on Friday for the election of Mete’s successor, with the Turkish consulate having mobilized and having contacts with Muslim Greek parliamentarians so that the pseudo-mufti’s chosen one is certainly elected, but also a… strategy is adopted against the law in question.
Burhan Baran is an MP of PASOK Xanthi, who comes from “Potami”, and he was elected with KINAL in the 2019 elections. The climate that prevailed all the time for him, was that he could not manage the balance required between of… loyalty to the party and the “instructions” from the Turkish consulate.
He himself did not hesitate to be photographed with these two candidates, in absolute identification with the Turkish Consulate. According to insiders in Thrace, he himself knew that his attitude is anti-national, in an illegal process anyway.
Yesterday, the MP starred in yet another episode of questioning the parliamentary order, but also the principles that PASOK has consistently advocated in matters of the Muslim minority.
He tweeted that he recognizes the minority in Thrace as Turkish. ND immediately reacted by calling on the president of KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, to take a stand, while there have been many local publications for two months calling on Mr. Androulakis to take his decisions on Mr. Baran’s continued condemnation stance.
The MP Xanthis then took down the post and stated that he is completely remaking it, he expressed his regret for the disturbance and the occasion that, against his will, he gave for negative comments towards him and above all, towards the faction he represents.
He also stated that he absolutely and unreservedly respects the Constitution of Greece and the Greek legislation, especially that which regulates the institution of the mufti, after the recent amendment, which as a member of PASOK he publicly supported in the Parliament. He noted that the Muslim minority is recognized by the Greek State, without any exception or discrimination in terms of individual and political rights.
And he meaningfully added that from now on, and in order to avoid any misunderstanding of his positions or his intentions, he will not participate in any process that encourages something unacceptable. In PASOK, there was the dilemma of whether he should be deleted and become an independent member of parliament, therefore not controlled at all, or stay within a parliamentary group.
In any case, the announcement he issued did not convince many in Thrace, mainly because they believe that this particular member of parliament has been spotted several times moving next to… agents of the Turkish consulate. And the question is what stance he will take from now on, but also how much tolerance the president of his party will show towards him.
