Italy practically confirmed the title of favorite it carried against Estonia, comfortably reaching victory (83-62) in the premiere of the two teams at EuroBasket 2022.

What was visible to the naked eye was confirmed in practice on the evening of Friday 2 September at the Mediolanum Forum. Italy were far superior to Estonia, took an early double digit lead and never looked back.

Both the difference in quality and depth was evident throughout the match, with Italy relying heavily on Simone Fontecchio and Niccolò Melli, in a low-scoring encounter nonetheless.

As much as Estonia fought, the absence of reliable attacking weapons (apart from Ker Krissa) doomed them early on, with the game becoming procedural in the second half.

Anyway, the big thing for Italy is what comes next (Greece) in terms of topping the group.
