Finding student housing in Kalamata has turned into a crossword puzzle for strong solvers, as combined with the offered rents, the situation only creates a headache for parents and students.
This situation is reflected in the data presented yesterday on the “Connections” show of ERT1 by the president of the Panhellenic Network of e-real estates, Themis Bakas.
In particular, he mentioned that… apartments up to 50 sq.m. are a species to disappear. above the 1st floor in the Messinian capital.
From there on, 4.55% is offered with rent from 201 to 250 euros, 22.73% with rent from 251 – 300 euros and 13.64% from 301 – 350 euros. The percentage is the same for apartments with a rent of 350 – 400 euros, while 45.45% are offered with a rent of 401 euros and above! As for what is offered in these rentals, according to Mr. Baca, only in the latter category can some of the apartments be partially or fully furnished.
The above figures therefore show the problematic situation that not only students, but also other social groups, such as substitute teachers etc., experience when looking for accommodation.
As is well known and emphasized by Themis Bakas, both in Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as in cities in the region, the problem is becoming more intense due to the increasing supply of apartments in the short-term rental market.
In the case of Kalamata, in fact, which has a demand for short-term rental, not only in the summer season, but throughout the year with an emphasis especially on the festive periods and the three-day holidays, at the beginning of August 840 properties were available on the short-term rental platforms and more than at the beginning of September they reached 1,095.
