An ideal premiere for the Greek National Team at this year’s Eurobasket. Our representative group in a great game, defeated Croatia 89-85, having Giannis Antetokounmpo and Tyler Dorsey in a terrible night. The team of Dimitris Itoudis had the lead throughout the match, the Croatians came back but in the final the class of the Greek Freak spoke!

At the start of the match, the Croatians “blocked” the National team, started stronger and took a 10-3 lead. The amazing Tyler Dorsey, however, who was unstoppable from the three-pointer, took the team of Dimitris Itoudis by the hand and together with Giannis Antetokounmpo starred in a long run (17-2) that brought Greece ahead in the first period with 24-16.

Our representative group continued with the foot on the gas, Dorsey dismantled every defensive system of the opponent and five minutes before the end of the half Greece was +19, 40-21. The “blue and white” team went to the locker room with +16 (46-30), with Dorsey having 20 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. In the first half, Greece had only 1 error while Croatia had 12.

In the third period and while Greece was ahead with 62-45, the Croatians “ran” a terrible 15-0 run and got closer to the basket (62-60), making a great comeback in the match. Two big shots from Dorsey and Agravanis, as well as a basket and a foul by Giannis, closed the third period at 70-62 for our National team.

In the fourth quarter, the Itoudis team managed to find answers when the opponent was close to the score, culminating in reducing the score to 84-82, a minute before the final. Kalathis with a fantastic pass found Antetokounmpo who scored, sending the difference to +4 and offering… oxygen to Greece. The Greek Freak blocked Smith’s 3-pointer on the Croatians’ next attack, took off by surprise, and with a terrible basket and foul made it 89-82, with Smith’s 3-pointer in the last phase making the final 89-85.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Dorsey finished the match with 27 points while Calathes had 6 assists. For the losers, Smith stood out with 23 and Simon with 17 points.

The quarters: 16-24, 30-46, 62-70, 85-89
