The regional Scheme “Left Movement for the Overthrow in Western Macedonia” visited the settlement of Perdikka at the request of the inhabitants of the settlement to verify on the spot the progress of excavations for the passage of the natural gas pipeline that will supply the city of Florina and the problems that were created.
The residents of Perdikka saw one morning that excavation work was being started for the passage of a natural gas pipeline within the settlement without any information from either them or the community council. The Regional Governor of Western Macedonia and the Mayor of Ptolemaida also declared ignorance of the matter, although the CEO of DEDA, Mr. Tsakas, who is responsible for the particular pipeline, stated that “all the relevant bodies have been informed”
The main issues raised by residents are:
1. That radiographs are being taken to check the welds within the settlement without any information to the residents and without any radiation protection measures for the residents and workers. The Ptolemaida Labor Center also denounces the lack of radiation protection measures with its announcement.
2. If the specific medium pressure pipeline, which will be connected to the outlet of the TAP located in Perdikka and will supply natural gas to Florina, is planned to also supply the settlement of Perdikka with natural gas and if they will have the benefits, in that it concerns the financing that the city of Florina has.
3. Concern, regarding financing, exists among the residents of Perdikka and also among the residents of the other regions of Western Macedonia, because the specific projects are at risk of being excluded from the NSRF since the EU has decided not to finance natural gas projects after 2023
At the meeting of the Regional Council that took place on 31-08-2022 after a challenge and request from the entire opposition with the participation, through a teleconference of Mr. Tsakas, it appeared that problems and delays in the arrival of natural gas also exist for Kastoria and Grevena since by decision of RAE, the construction of the DESFA National Pipeline is postponed by one year.
As far as Perdikkas is concerned, Mr. Tsakas pledged that the medium pressure pipeline of the DEDA that crosses the settlement will have a low pressure outlet in Perdikkas and in fact the internal network of the Village will be financed up to the “waits” outside the houses and businesses.
We share the anxieties of the residents, we support their just demands, we stand by their side for any form of struggle or protest they decide and we closely follow the developments on this issue.
We immediately demand that measures be taken to protect the health of workers and residents from radiography, and we call on all the agencies involved in the specific project to commit in writing to the requests of the residents, who are at the heart of the so-called de-lignitization, to supply the settlement with natural gas and corresponding financing.
