Announcement of the Municipal Councilors of the People’s Rally in all the municipalities of North Macedonia on the increases in waste management | Daily update for Kozani since 2001 –

In a period when working-class households are hit by the accuracy of electricity, fuel, food, etc. comes to the Municipal Councils of the region Annual Program of Actions and Pricing Regulation for MSW Management Services for the year 2023″ of DIADYMA S.A. Regional FODSA of Western Macedonia” which foresees new increases to the Municipalities that will reach 40%.

This cost due to reciprocity will fall on the backs of the citizens who have to pay the increases, pushing them deeper into poverty and impoverishment.

This development was expected and the elected representatives of the People’s Rally in the Municipal Councils promptly warned the people about the consequences of the commercialization of waste management, based on the EU’s policy in this field, which aims at the profitability of business groups.

The project comes to implement the multi-legislative sweep of the Ministry of Environment entitled “Integrated framework for waste management”, which incorporates EU directives. “about waste, packaging and waste”. In other words, it implements EU policy. for the Green Transition, which aims to open new fields of profitability for business groups, in this particular case in waste management.

This law activated anti-people taxes that SYRIZA had foreseen with the National Plan for Waste Management (ESDA) introducing the slogan “pay as you fly”. This logic pervades the design of DIADYMA.

In this context, another tax was introduced on the backs of the citizens, the infamous “burial fee” which from 20 euros per ton from 1/1/2022 (in DIADYMA’s plan for 2023 it reaches approximately 850 thousand euros) will jump to 55 euros per ton in 2027. The biggest burden for 2023 also comes from the increase in operating costs (approximately 1.6 million euros) which is the result of the PPP Agreement for the operation of the EPADYM factory (clauses, reduction of funding from PDE, transfer of VAT to DIADYMA k.a) beyond the increases due to inflation. All of this shows that this year’s increases are only the beginning as the burial tax gradually increases and government funding decreases.

These are the results of the “model” PPP for waste management in the region.

Profits for EPADYM, bribes and medieval labor relations for workers and the people. All those who supported and promoted this policy must apologize to the people.

The elected representatives of the People’s Rally in the Municipalities of Western Macedonia will vote against this plan and will give all their strength to the organization of workers and the people against this policy that has turned waste management into a golden field of profit for business groups of the sector that once again the people will pay dearly.

What is proven today is that the development of science and technology makes it possible for waste management to serve people’s needs, provided that profit is kept out of the way.

We call on the movement’s actors to fight in conflict with the monopolies and their power and to claim:

  • Single public state body for waste management, without any involvement of private individuals at all levels.

  • Complete exemption of the people from retributive fees and tributes.

  • Signing of the S.S.E. with increases in the salaries of the employees in the EPADYM.
