In the surroundings of the Olympic Sports Center of Athens “Spyros Louis”, the 1st “Lifeline Run” road race will be held on September 5 (18.00).
The race is organized by the humanitarian organization LifeLine Hellas, Marathon Team Greece by Maria Polyzou and OAKA. Purpose of the organization is the reinforcement of the Attica Hospital, with the offer of incubators, and the support of the children of Ukraine.
The charity match will take place under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Sports and is dedicated to the memory of Giorgos Papanikolaou, who discovered the “Pap test” which, every year, saves millions of women from uterine cancer. The “golden” Paralympian Thanasis Gavelas will participate in the “Lifeline Run” with the “driver” of the Deputy Minister of Sports. Mr. Avgenakis will hold the rope of our Paralympian in order to lead him. Among others, two-time European walking champion Antigoni Drisbiotis, who will run in the 5,000m, middle and long distance champion Anastasia Marinakou, Giorgos Karagounis and others are expected to take part in the event.
“The “Lifeline Run” race is under our auspices and will be held with the aim of supporting the Attica Hospital with incubators, as well as supporting children from Ukraine. The Deputy Ministry of Sports always supports similar events such as this one, which has both a charitable and sporting character. On September 5th we will all meet at O.A.K.A. and we will form a…different life line, a life-line of offering for fellow man,” said the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis.
The organization is an inspiration of the Greek marathon runner and holder of the pan-Hellenic record since 1998, Maria Polyzou. “It is a race that will start from the Agora of O.A.K.A. and will be held for a good cause. The route is flat and everyone can either walk or run it. We will also be joined by the Gentre Carousel Greece miniature therapeutic horses of Mrs. Minas Karagiannis who will walk or run with the children. All the caps of the race will be collected and offered to the program started by the coordinating general director of O.A.K.A. Konstantinos Halioris and aims to give them in order to convert them into wheelchairs. We are waiting for you all at O.A.K.A.”, emphasized Maria Polyzou.
Competitors will be able to take part in the following routes:
– 5,000 meters for men and women with electronic timing
– 2,500 meters dynamic walking
– 2,500 meters “Mom and Dad with the stroller” is held for the first time in Greece as part of the Lifeline Hellas campaign “children helping children”
– 600 meters for children aged 6 to 12 years

18:20 – 2,500 meters “Mom and Dad with the stroller”
19:00 Prize Giving
All participants will receive a commemorative medal for their participation.
