The 1st “Lifeline Run” road race will be held on September 5 (6:00 p.m.) in the surroundings of the Athens Olympic Sports Center “Spyros Louis”. The race is organized by the humanitarian organization LifeLine Hellas, Marathon Team Greece by Maria Polyzou and the Olympic Stadium of Athens. The purpose of the organization is to support the Attica Hospital, by offering incubators and supporting the children of Ukraine.
The charity match will take place under the auspices of the Undersecretary of Sports, in the presence of Prince Alexander and Princess Aikaterini, while it is dedicated to the memory of George Papanikolaou, who discovered the Pap test that, every year, saves millions of women from uterine cancer. The “golden” Paralympian Thanasis Gavelas will participate in the “Lifeline Run” with the “driver” of the Deputy Minister of Sports. Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis will hold the rope of our Paralympian in order to lead him. Among others, two-time European champion Antigoni Drisbiotis, who will run in the 5,000 m, middle and long distance champion Anastasia Marinakou, Giorgos Karagounis and others are expected to take part in the event.
“The “Lifeline Run” race is under our auspices and will be held with the aim of strengthening the Attica Hospital with incubators as well as supporting children from Ukraine. The Deputy Ministry of Sports always supports similar events like this one which has both a charitable and sports character. On September 5 we will all meet at OAKA and we will form a… different life line, a life line – offering for fellow human beings”, said Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis.
The organization is an inspiration of the Greek marathon runner and holder of the pan-Hellenic record since 1998, Maria Polyzou. “This is a race that will start from the OAKA Market and will be held for a good cause. The route is flat and everyone can either walk or run it. We will also be joined by the Gentre Carousel Greece miniature therapeutic horses of Mrs. Minas Karagiannis who will walk or run with the children. All the caps of the match will be collected and offered to the program started by the Coordinator General Director of O.A.K.A. Konstantinos Halioris and aims to give them in order to convert them into wheelchairs. We are waiting for you all at OAKA”, emphasized Maria Polyzou.
Competitors will be able to take part:
-> 5,000 meters men – women with electronic timing
-> 2,500 meters dynamic walking
-> 2,500 meters “Mom and Dad with the stroller” is held for the first time in Greece as part of the Lifeline Hellas campaign “children helping children”
-> 600 meters for children aged 6 to 12 years
The match schedule:
18:00 – 5,000 meters men – women.
18:05 – 600 meters for children
18:20 – 2,500 meters dynamic walking
18:20 – 2,500 meters “Mom and Dad with the stroller”
19:00 Prize Giving
All participants will receive a commemorative medal for their participation.
