Corfu: The Ionian island exceeded all expectations, as well as the record performance it had achieved in tourism in 2018.
Almost 400,000 tourists they reached him August on the island through the Ioannis Kapodistrias airport, surpassing any precedent in recent years, since this year’s 2,398 August international commercial flights were 200 more than August 2019 and 38 more than last July.
“As everything shows until the end of October we will have more than attendance 1,600,000 passengers from the airport alone, thus surpassing the 2018 record of 1,500,000 passengers during the summer season” says the president of the Corfu FSA Employees’ Association to APE-MBE Dimitris Roussos.
In particular, the September expected to arrive approx 200,000 passengers and the October at least 100,000 passengers, while they have already boarded at the airport 1,330,000 passengers to date.
The scepters of tourism on the island were held this year by British, followed by the Germans, Italians, French and Poles.
At the same time, the island remains at the zenith of the tourist season, even though September started today, while “sunk” by Greeks as well tourists who preferred the month of August for their holidays.
“The positive is that the 2023 we are expected to have a lot of tourism as the low-cost airlines have already announced their flights from next March. The issue is how we will manage it both from the point of view of manning and operational operation of the airports“, concludes Mr. Roussos.
