The Industrial Property Organization is the exclusively responsible body in Greece for the protection of inventions, trademarks and industrial designs, while at the same time offering technological information from published patents (DE). The aim of OBI is to provide important services in the field of industrial property and to contribute to the technological and industrial development of the country.
In May 2022, OBI took over the responsibility of Trademarks, following the example of the rest of the European Union countries, as a result of a legislative initiative of the Ministry of Development.
The concentration of industrial property under the same roof also accounts for the significant increase in patent filings in the previous year and the maintenance of the same upward trend in the current year. It is clear that also in Greece, the protection of Intellectual Property is gradually gaining the required importance and it is understood that the intangible capital resulting from the protection titles is an added value for businesses providing a competitive advantage in the market.
The OBI operates Regional Public Information Offices in Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion Crete, Volos, Ioannina and Eastern Macedonia / Thrace (Xanthi, Komotini), which provide information from DE and inform the inventive public about copyright issues by offering high level personalized assistance.
With very high levels of expertise, the Organization carries out a multitude of activities and actions throughout Greece, in order to modernize and strengthen the Industrial Property protection system.
OBI has as a milestone the continuous improvement of the services it offers. This is implemented by providing new scientific and financial tools to the scientific and business community, by fully digitizing its services, by signing cooperation protocols in order to achieve the interconnection of innovation with economic production, with benefits for inventors, and members-entrepreneurs of the Chambers of each region. For the help and support of the members of the Chambers, trainings are launched as well as various information actions, while the possibilities of networking and development are maximized with collaborations in the region for the benefit of the local society.
The Chamber of Fthiotida in collaboration with OBI will soon organize an informative event for its members and anyone interested, in order to inform about the services offered by OBI.
