“Everyone at the May Day strike rally in Komotini”

--

A call for mass participation in the strike rally that will take place on Holy Wednesday, May 1 at 11:00 in the central square of Komotini, ENIDYK addresses.

In her statement she states:

“130 years since May Day in Athens and the claim of 8 o’clock as a mature necessity. Since then, we have been faced with EU directives. and the corresponding anti-labor legislation that all governments and the current one have passed, in order to abolish the 8-hour shift, to make the working time flexible, to establish the 13-hour, 6-day and 7-day work. Laws and directives that found and find the support of all those who ruled until today, and serve the interests of the few.

From Chicago in 1886 to May Day 1944 with the heroic sacrifice of 200 communists in Kaisariani, the working class has written with its blood brilliant pages of history and struggle, which no amount of state and employer terrorism can stop. Claiming better living and working conditions against capitalist brutality, for the abolition of the exploitation of man by man.

The strike mobilizations on February 28 and April 17, with their massiveness despite the efforts of the GSEE and ADEDY leaderships to undermine them, sent a thunderous message that the working class in the face of their profits, the intensity of exploitation and the war, prioritizes life her.

75 years since the foundation of NATO, the peoples are experiencing the consequences of the imperialist wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and in our country the consequences of the ever deeper involvement in them. By tying it to NATO and the EU for the interests of shipowners, industrialists and businessmen.

At the same time, workers are experiencing poverty and exploitation, forced to live with wages reduced by 25% compared to 2010, in fact even basic goods have become unreachable. Business groups are making record profits on the back of broken workers’ rights and the lack of workplace safety measures that have left hundreds of our colleagues dead and maimed.

This same policy is applied in all EU countries and is the reason why workers are massing in the streets, fighting for their modern needs. In hopeful struggles, which show the enormous power of the organized working class, they illuminate the path of perspective.

We continue even more determinedly, we claim:

  • Better working and living conditions, SSE with wage increases and more rights.
  • Now repeal the anti-labor laws that crush the 8-hour shift and criminalize trade union action, prohibit the right to strike. 7 hours – 5 days – 35 hours.
  • Take immediate action for accuracy.
  • Measures for the health and safety of workers at work.
  • Disengaging the country from imperialist designs and war conflicts.
  • Solidarity with the people of Palestine, in their just and cruel struggle against the murderous state of Israel which is slaughtering them with the backs of NATO and the EU.

May Day is the day we honor the pioneer fighters of our class, all those who gave their lives to dawn better days for the people. It is the beacon of the irreconcilable class struggle. Let’s not allow the government’s attempt to turn it into a festive holiday to pass.

EVERYONE AT THE STRIKE GATHERING – 11am – K. PLATEIA KOMOTINIS”.
