The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced in the early hours of Saturday morning that he was considering a counter proposal Israel on the terms for reaching an armistice in Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.
“Today Hamas received from the Zionist occupation forces their official response to our position, which was delivered to the mediators from Egypt and Qatar on April 13. The movement will study this proposal and submit its response as soon as its study is completed,” said Khalil al-Haya, deputy head of Hamas’ political office in the Gaza Strip.
Yesterday Israeli officials told their Egyptian counterparts that Israel is ready to give negotiations “one last chance” to reach a deal with Hamas to release the hostages before moving forward with its ground operation in Rafah.
“Israel has told Egypt that it is serious about preparations for the Rafah operation and will not allow Hamas to stand in the way,” one of the sources was quoted as saying.
