“Fraport”: It has a profit of 79.1 million euros and the workers at “MACEDONIA” airport even pay for parking

Intervention at “FRAPORT”, at “MACEDONIA” airport, took place on Thursday, April 25 by Union of Private Employees of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki.

The main issue of the intervention, according to the Union, “was the unacceptable decision to pay airport workers to park their vehicles in order to work. Also, that the parking lot they now want to make available to the employees is located in a remote location, unsafe and inadequate. And this is because it is in their interest to use all the nearby parking lots for the passengers-customers, even at a high price”.

The officials of “FRAPORT”, emphasizes the Union, “committed to inform the administration in Athens about the specific requests, pointing out that the companies that are active in it are responsible for the workers. Essentially once again they threw the ball to their “partners”, without taking any responsibility for the working conditions of hundreds of workers. We emphasize that the main responsible at “MACEDONIA” airport is “FRAPORT GREECE”which took over the maintenance, operation and management of 14 regional airports in Greece».

The workers at the airport, notes the Union, “have succeeded with their work in breaking one record after another in passenger traffic. Huge profits and the miracle of Tourism are built on their own backs. The its financial data Fraport for 2023 are revealing: 545.2 million euros in revenue and net profit 79.1 millions of euros. I mean, there is 13.2% increase in net profits compared to 2022.

And while workers’ wages have remained stagnant for yearsface great intensification in their work and work in rolling work statusFraport chooses to do another blow to these miserable working conditions: To remove the parking area to a point that is not safe and sufficient for the airport staff and to charge them for parking.”

Our union, it is pointed out in the announcement, “stands by the workers of the airport “Macedonia” and demands:

• Free and free parking with access card and unlimited parking time for all employees.

• Safe and sufficient parking close to the staff workplace.

• There should be security of the parking area and of the vehicles.

• Free movement of employees on the OASTH lines to and from the airport.

• Increase of buses of all lines to “Macedonia” airport and during the night hours.

• No thought to pay or increase it for all staff».
