Working meeting with the Regional Governor, Apostolos Tzitzikostas

Working meeting with Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias had o Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas today at his office in the District Services Building on the west Thessaloniki.

In his statements after the meeting, Mr. Tzitzikostas referred to the cooperation issues between the Ministry and the Region for Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia: “Already through the good cooperation we have with the Ministry of National Defense and with European resources we strengthened the 424th General Military Hospital of Greece, in Thessaloniki, both with logistical equipment and with auxiliary staff, while we upgraded the energy of the building, thus improving the operating conditions of the nursing institution and facilitating the work of doctors and nurses, for the benefit of patients. We also equipped the Armed Forces with modern machinery for Civil Protection issues. And beyond that, a few weeks ago the decision of the Ministry of National Defense was announced to allow the historic warship “Velos” to remain in Thessaloniki. It was a request of the Region of Central Macedonia, which Nikos Dendias accepted and I personally thank him for it. Now we are in consultation to find the place where “Velos” can safely welcome visitors”.

Mr. Tzitzikostas and Mr. Dendias also discussed the European elections in June, as Mr. Dendias is currently in Thessaloniki in the capacity of coordinator of the ND pre-election campaign for Central Macedonia.

“Today I received Mr. Dendias also in his capacity as the coordinator of the pre-election campaign of New Democracy for Central Macedonia in view of the European elections in June. There is no doubt that these European elections are particularly crucial. They are crucial for Greece, because our country should continue on the path it has followed in recent years, the path of reforms and stability. However, they are equally critical for the EU as a whole. With the difficult conditions we face worldwide and especially in our neighborhood, we must elect people and political forces, who will be able to respond with arguments and knowledge to the difficult five years ahead of us in the EU. I assured Nikos Dendias that in this effort and in we are in this fight together, in order to succeed June’s European elections ensure that the country remains committed to the goals it has set and the important work that has been done in recent years and that the EU can continue, with the changes it needs to be done in the next five years, with a correct compass and with people who believe in and support European integration and understand that the solution to our problems is more and not less Europe”, emphasized, among others, the Regional Governor.

For his part, Mr. Dendias stated: “It is obvious that from here I wanted to start the effort for the European elections. Apostolos Tzitzikostas is a regional governor of more than 60% and his help is absolutely necessary and I came to ask him for it, so that New Democracy can achieve a good result in the European elections here in Central Macedonia. We exchanged views on how we can do better together. With absolute modesty I realize the difficulty of the undertaking. I also know very well our polling performance and any difficulties we face. But I also know that here is the historical cradle of our party. The founder of ND, Konstantinos Karamanlis, comes from the Region of Central Macedonia. Here historically we could have an open communication with the voters of the district. And we will restore this communication. With the help of Apostolos Tzizikostas I am optimistic that we can succeed. In the coming weeks we will make this effort, we will explain the stake, which is clear and concerns the Greek course in Europe. A path that has been set and must be continued. But it also concerns Europe itself. Populism must be dealt with, Euroscepticism must be dealt with, these forces which are fighting European integration must be dealt with. We will all make it together. I want to express my thanks and, if you want, my gratitude to the regional governor for the help he said he would generously offer me.”
