Two billion euros have been committed to the anti-drone dome, which will be similar to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, as revealed by the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, speaking at the Beyond 2024 exhibition at TIF, on Friday afternoon (26.4 .24).

“Remember Israel started from scratch. We can too”, emphasized Mr. Dendias, underlining that the development of the specific system is part of the strengthening of the domestic defense industry and moving away from the “I buy ready-made off the shelf” logic.

When asked about the timetable, the Minister of National Defense said that nothing specific has been set, “but it is part of the “Agenda 2030″, so I think that by then we will have some results”.

He referred at length to the Innovation Ecosystem planned for the Armed Forces, with the establishment of the Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation (EL.K.A.K), which will determine the modern needs of the ED for advanced systems.

“There are many companies in Greece that can produce drones and other modern systems for our Armed Forces. We will tell them our needs, they will make a prototype, we will test it and if it works for us, we will start the mass orders”, pointed out Mr. Dendias, reminding that we have a country next to us (Turkey) that produces thousands of drones .

“We want to create an ecosystem of defense industries so that they can prepare new products to meet the country’s defense needs,” he said.
