The Regional Environment Committee met on Thursday, April 25, at the Region’s headquarters in Tripoli, with the main topic being the issue of the Strategic Environmental Impact Study of the Special Urban Plan of Megalopolis.

The President of the Committee and Vice-Regional Governor for Energy, Environment and Circular Economy, Anastasios Adamopoulos, said: “The Regional Environment and Spatial Planning Committee of the Peloponnese Region met for the 3rd time within the first month of its operation. This fact in itself proves the correctness of the initiative of the Regional Authority, for its creation and our will for direct, quick decisions within the strict deadlines of the Law.

In particular, at the last meeting, we dealt with the extremely important issue of the Strategic Environmental Impact Study of the Special Town Planning Plan of the core of the Megalopolis Apolinitization Zone, on which we gave a positive opinion.

This decision follows the recent pre-approval of the Special Urban Development Plan of the Megalopolis Depoliticization Zone, by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and we see, gradually, all the tools that will help us achieve the goals of the Just Development Transition, shaping the right conditions to attract investment.

Finally, the Committee also gave an opinion on other important issues, specifically on Environmental Impact Studies for the installation of RES, where they are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, always taking into account the clear need to develop Renewable Energy Sources, with the also undeniable need to protect the natural environment”.

The rapporteur, Deputy Regional Director of Spatial Planning and Real Estate Management, Spyros Tzinieris, described the positive opinion of the Environmental Committee on the special urban plan of Megalopolis as very important, as, as he mentioned, it is the most burdened environment in decades and this decision it also ensures the restoration of the natural environment in combination with the business initiatives that will be taken for the benefit of the economy and the residents of the area.

Finally, the Deputy Regional Governor, Christos Lambropoulos, stated that this decision initiates developments for Megalopolis and expressed optimism but also certainty for the change of course of the region after and the attraction of significant investments.

High-noise production activities

Production activities of low and medium disturbance
