His presence Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis the Openings of the Exhibitions “Technology – Innovation” and “Crete: Culture and Craftsmanship” took place in the context of 3rd Robotics Olympiadwhich started today in Heraklion, at the indoor gym of Nea Alikarnassos.
They present it 3,500 competitors from 36 countries of the world.
The opening presentation of the Exhibition was made by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis and the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis.
“A big event for the Robotics Olympiad, but at the same time an exhibition by the Development Companies of Crete that contribute to the development of the countryside through the LEADER programs and through the effort they make to make small and large investments in the hinterland. I want to congratulate all the contributors, the Development Associations of all Crete because I feel proud and as the pioneer of the Development Agency of Heraklion, in 1991 when we started, no one could have imagined that there would be this great conquest and development in terms of financial tools. I want to thank the Ministry of Rural Development and the Minister and the Secretary General for this contribution so that we have the funding. Good luck”stated Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis.
In his short greeting, the Regional Governor of Crete emphasized, among other things, that the Region of Crete will continue to support young people, local businesses, research structures, opening new paths.
“We continue on this path, building the Crete of 2030. A modern, smart, green and human Region, the friendliest Region for entrepreneurship and investment. The Region that is reliable, fast, efficient. On these axes, we continue the cooperation we have developed and move forward”, he emphasized.
The opening ceremony of the Olympiad included the parade of the teams, music and dance events but also the talks at 19.00 in the afternoon.
It is reminded that on Friday morning the 3rd Robotics Olympiad started with the wrestling matches.

It will have a special presence at the games most famous artificial intelligence robot, Sophia, which will be in the closed gym next Sunday afternoon. As the organizers explain, Sophia is a humanoid robot. “It’s the first robot that can mimic human behavior, show emotions and talk.”
THE “Minoan Robotics Olympiad” is organized by the Hellenic Educational Robotics Organization (Hellenic Educational Robotics Organization), in collaboration with the Region of Crete, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Development Authority of Heraklion. The Robotics Olympiad is also supported by the Hellenic Federation of Electronic Sports, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Crete, the Municipality of Heraklion and the Municipality of Malevizio.
