Municipality of Athens: Orders to remove benches in 1,246 businesses since the beginning of the year

Checks have increased by 9%, compared to the previous year

1,246 businesses have been served with bench seat removal orders since the beginning of the year, by the Municipal Police in Athens, while checks have increased by 9% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

According to the statistics of the Municipal Police Directorate of the municipality of Athens, during the first quarter of 2024, there have been 2,738 checks for table seats in Stores of Health Interest against 2,506, in 2023. At the same time, during the same period, orders to remove illegal bank seats increased by 54% compared to 2023. Specifically, in 1,246 cases, violations were found and an order was given to remove arbitrary occupation of common space, compared to 809, in the same period the previous year.

Only for the period from April 4 to 21, 2024, they were given 300 orders to remove arbitrary occupation of common space compared to only 169 in 2023 and there were 23 operations to remove bank seats in Health Interest Stores (H.I.E.).

In detail, during the period 1/1/2024-21/4/2024 the following have taken place:

• 2,738 Shared Space Occupancy Checks,
• 1.246 Orders for the Removal of Arbitrary Occupancy of Shared Space,
• 466 Music checks (audio measurements) in Health Care Stores (H.I.E.), of which 136 Violations were found and the corresponding lawsuits have been filed with the Prosecutor’s Office,
• 27 Seals in Stores of Health Interest.
