Giorgos Gerapetritis emphasized that Greece’s foreign policy is characterized by a “position of principle. We will never appear inconsistent”

In a discreet but clear way, Giorgos Gerapetritis distanced himself from Dora Bakoyannis and her proposal in favor of Kosovo at the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe.

“Our attitude is clear and pure. We said that we do not think that under the current circumstances it will be possible for Kosovo to join international organizations. The Greek government is not going to agree to the integration of Kosovo, although we maintain good neighborly relations. What each MP did is a matter of parliamentary independence. “Greece, however, expresses itself through its government,” said the Foreign Minister in the context of a discussion of a topical question by Sia Anagnostopoulou from the New Left.

Giorgos Gerapetritis emphasized that Greece’s foreign policy is characterized by a “position of principle. We will never appear inconsistent” and added: “The position of the Greek government is absolutely stable within the framework of the Council of Europe. This particular parliamentary procedure does not concern governments. Greece maintains a consistent position. Just as we abstained from the process in which Kosovo’s application for membership in the security council was rejected, so we will vote in the next council of ministers. Abstention is considered a refusal.”

Vucits, angry with Bakoyannis

It is noted that almost a month ago, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, got angry with Dora Bakoyannis. The President of Serbia stated at the time that the rapporteur of the European Parliament for Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe, Dora Bakoyannis, changed the conditions in her proposal for Kosovo to the Council of Europe.

As he said, this was done after a phone call and resigned to the fact that Pristina must first implement the “Union of Serbian Municipalities” (ZSO).

Speaking from the Palace of Serbia, Vucic said he knows who did it. As he said:

“Suddenly she regretted being too firm and strong. Then he remembered that ZSO is not important. And then he remembered that expropriation wasn’t important either. I know very well who gave the order to abandon your principles and behave like this. Shame on you,” said Vucits, referring to Dora Bakoyannis.

“Then they received a letter from Kurti and Osmani in which they undertake to form the ZSO, once they are accepted as members of the Council of Europe,” he noted. “They are lying for the thousandth time. And the bottom line is that those who approve of it, know they are lying. And look at the paradox, as with the first appointment”, he noted and added: “It is possible that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will take place on the 11th anniversary, on April 18 or 19, 11 years after the adoption of the Brussels Agreement and non-establishment of the Council of Europe. Just so you can see that the ‘dating’ game is no accident: They think they can humiliate the Serbs forever,” he said.

Alexis Tsipras kept his distance

With an eye on the difficult “neighborhood” defined by the Western Balkans, on the delicate balances in the region, on the geopolitical relations of Greece and more broadly of Europe, Alexis Tsipras kept his distance on the issue of Kosovo, declaring several days ago that he was present at Dora’s proposal Bakoyannis for Kosovo to join the Council of Europe.

A move of particular importance by the former prime minister of Greece as, according to experienced observers of the issue, the attitude taken by Alexis Tsipras prevents the Serbian side from considering that there is a hostile attitude of Greece. In any case, the distance that Alexis Tsipras kept from the suggestion made by the former Greek Foreign Minister removed, according to the same observers, the Serbian side’s thinking about the existence of a concerted effort by Greece to pave the way for Kosovo’s integration. without substantive terms.

The attitude of Alexis Tsipras brought particularly warm words from the Serbian media about the former Greek prime minister. “Tsipras voted against the admission of the so-called Kosovo to the Council of Europe, he calls for the formation of the Union of Serbian Municipalities,” noted glassrpske.com. “Greece’s representative in the political committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Alexis Tsipras, did not support the report on the admission of self-proclaimed Kosovo to the Council of Europe,” blic.rs reported.
