On Thursday, April 25, 2024, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the University of Crete and the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion took place in the hall of the Senate on the Heraklion Campus.

The memorandum was signed by the rector of the University of Crete, professor Mr. Georgios M. Kontakis and the president of the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion, Mr. Aristotle Skoundakis.

The event was also attended by the vice-chancellor of Academic Affairs, Lifelong Learning, International Relations and Outreach professor Mr. George Kosioristhe Pharmacology professors of the School of Medicine of the University of Crete, Mr. George Liapakis and Mr. Ioannis Charalambopoulos and the head of the Center for Lifelong Learning of the University of Crete (KEDIVIM), Mrs. Ekaterini Tsalimi.

On the part of the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion, the head of the Scientific Committee of the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion and Researcher of the Medical School of the University of Crete, Mr. Marios Spanakisthe former president of the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion, Mr. Ioannis Tsikandilakisthe secretary of the Association Mr. Michalis Alifierakis and the board member Mr. Michalis Stamatakis.

The aim of this cooperation is to define the areas in which the two parties wish to cooperate, for the benefit of both, and the promotion of a cooperation framework, through joint educational actions and research programs and in particular with the following indicatively mentioned and not limiting actions:

  • Joint organization of education and training programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

In the context of the Memorandum of Cooperation, an educational program entitled “Advanced Education in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Community Pharmacy” has already been approved and will be immediately implemented by the Center for Lifelong Learning of the University of Crete (KEDIVIM), with the professor of Pharmacology of the School of Medicine in scientific charge. University of Crete Mr. Achillea Gravanis. The purpose of this program is to strengthen the scientific knowledge of workers in the fields of pharmaceutical science and the upgrading of pharmaceutical care services offered to the public. The main objective will be the specialization of new pharmacists, who, as graduates of pharmacy schools, will have the possibility to adapt immediately to the requirements of a modern pharmacy and to move from academic pharmaceutical science to community pharmaceutical practice.

  • Co-organization of scientific seminars and conferences.
  • Joint development of information material for the dissemination and publicity of scientific achievements.
  • Implementation of joint research, participation in research programs, participation in joint research initiatives and scientific events.
  • Exchange of information and publications, creation of standards for research and educational activities with the aim of continuous education of pharmacists and other scientists related to health sciences as well as positive sciences.

By signing this Memorandum of Cooperation, the University of Crete and the Pharmaceutical Association of Heraklion demonstrate their commitment to the promotion of pharmaceutical science in the wider area of ​​Crete.
