“Research and innovation are put at the service of the National Strategic Goal of reducing total greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and phasing out lignite production by 2028.” This was noted by the Deputy Minister of Development, Maximos Senetakis, speaking at the OECD ministerial session in Paris, on Science and Technology, on the theme: “How to unite society with Science and Technology for a green and fair transition”.

On the occasion of what the Deputy Minister mentioned in his speech, he notes in a post on social media: “Research and Innovation are put at the service of the National Strategic Goal of reducing total greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and the phasing out of lignite production by 2028. In the context of the green and fair transition, Greece is one of the few countries that have set such ambitious goals. It is a strategic choice of the ND government and personally of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

So, at the OECD Ministerial Meeting, in Paris, on Science and Technology, on the theme: ‘How to unite society with Science and Technology for a green and fair transition’, I had the opportunity to present in detail how the Research and Innovation contributes to the implementation of our Strategy.

In this context we aim for economic development through innovative business activities, social inclusion and climate neutrality.

To achieve economic development we use research and innovation actions to facilitate local entrepreneurship based on the production of innovative products, as well as processes and work models that promote innovation.

To increase social inclusion, we intervene with actions to strengthen the skills of our human resources in new technologies.

To advance the goals of Climate Neutrality we support the development of environmentally friendly products and services through Research and Innovation.

The implementation of the Strategic Plan has begun and our approach is holistic.

At the Ministry of Development and the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation we create specific and effective action plans based on extensive research into the needs of each region. Always, in collaboration with local agencies.

All of these include Innovation Hubs, Clusters, Incubators and public-private partnerships.

Our holistic approach is implemented through innovative public procurement tools that allow us to increase our overall capacity to innovate, to both accelerate the green transition and help small and medium-sized local businesses participate in the production of new wealth.”
