Journalists from Romania were hosted in Patras and Kalavryta from April 19 to 21, as part of a familiarization trip.

The Romanian journalists represented the Cap Compas program of the Romanian state television network TVR, which is the oldest program on Romanian television with topics from around the world. In her reports for each destination, she focuses on culture, art, local culture and customs, religion and gastronomy as well as alternative tourism activities. Each show of Cap Compas is shown on the second channel of the state network (TVR2) with an audience of approximately 200,000 viewers in total and is rebroadcast on three more channels of the state network (TVR International, TVR Culture, TVR Moldova) in many repetitions and in an even wider public.
The trip was organized and carried out in collaboration with the Office of the Hellenic Tourism Organization of Romania and with the kind support of the Holy Metropolises of Patras and Kalavryta – Aegialia.

The journalists were guided by representatives of the Holy Metropolises of Patras and Kalavryta – Aegialia and by officials of the PDE Tourism Strategy Planning Department to the Holy Temples of Pantokrator, old and new Agios Andreas and the Metropolis of Patras as well as to the Holy Monasteries of Agia Lavra and Mega Spileio in Kalavryta. During the above guided tours, photographs were taken of the internal and external environment of the churches and interviews were conducted with representatives of the Church regarding the historical, cultural and religious importance and tradition of the above Orthodox monuments. The guest journalists were impressed by the hospitality and information they received and collected rich material for the promotion of PDE in the television medium they work for.

As the Vice-Regional Governor of Tourism Development PDE Panagiotis Sakellaropoulos pointed out: “The visit of the journalists of the Romanian television crew is a unique opportunity to promote our region as a pole of attraction for faithful pilgrims and visitors, from the same religion Romania, so that they can admire the important pilgrimage monuments up close or the other cult religious monuments of high historical and cultural value of our country. For the Regional Authority, religious tourism is an integral part of cultural tourism that can dissolve cultural and religious barriers and build bridges between people and communities, combining with other special forms of tourism such as agritourism, health, sports and conference tourism”.
