3rd Robotics Olympiad in Heraklion: Spectacular opening ceremony (video)

Spectacular opening of the curtain at 7 pm at the 3rd Robotics Olympiad held in Two Aorakis in Nea Alikarnassos.

They have been in Heraklion for two days the 3,500 competitors from 36 countries of the world, ready to overcome the difficulties of the human movement of an athlete thanks to the help of technology.

The rich program of events of the 3rd Robotics Olympiad will last four days, from today until Monday, with the exhibitions and events of the event being accessible to the public.

The groups of young children have gathered since the morning at the closed Gymnasium Dyo Aorakia, in Nea Alikarnassos.

The presentation of the Opening of the Exhibition was made by Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis by Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis. The green light for the start and opening of the Robotics Exhibition was again given by the Regional Governor of Crete, this time together with the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis.

The opening ceremony of the Olympiad included the parade of the national teams, the warm welcome and the speeches but of course the music and dance events which started at 19.00 in the afternoon.

A special presence at the games will be the most famous artificial intelligence robot, Sophia, who will be in the indoor gym next Sunday afternoon. As the organizers explain, Sophia is a humanoid robot. “It’s the first robot that can mimic human behavior, show emotions and talk.

This is an important action of CRETE and the co-organizers who are trying to “transfer” the Olympic spirit to young people through the development of technology and robotics, giving hope to every athlete with mobility difficulties to be able to overcome obstacles and to compete in the ancient Greek institution, the Olympic Games.

In his short greeting, the Regional Governor of Crete emphasized, among other things, that the Region of Crete will continue to support young people, local businesses, research structures, opening new paths.
