The former prime minister made a new intervention on the Greek-Turkish language, Antonis Samarasabout 20 days before the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Turkey and the meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Mr. Samaras, speaking at the presentation of the book by Yannos Charalambidis, commented that he observes “strange things lately”. He argued in particular that: “There are professional appeasers in Athens who claim that the Greek-Turkish issues raised by Turkey are not settled because of Cyprus. And that therefore we must proceed without Cyprus.”

The former prime minister emphasized that the “self-evidently strategic national position” is that: “The Greek-Turkish and Cypriot issues have the same reason that they are not resolved: Because of the Turkish aggressive and expansionist policy, which calls for the division of the Aegean and Cyprus.”

Mr. Samaras continued by saying: “I want to be clear: No Greek-Turkish solution can be found without, first, a democratic and sustainable solution to the Cypriot issue based on the principles and values of the EU and International Law!

And let no one forget: almost half of Cyprus is currently under occupation, after a Turkish invasion! Nicosia is the last capital city in the West to be split in two! And this is a shame for our culture…”

“Nails” for the 50 years from Attila and spikes against Doras Bakoyannis

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion in Cyprusthe former prime minister asked himself: “Why has the Greek Government not proceeded, as it should, with international initiatives to commemorate this traumatic anniversary?”

Mr. Samaras argued that the entire this year’s 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion should be dedicated to highlighting the Cyprus tragedyi.e. in its internationalization.

“In less than three months is the black anniversary. Then when “I don’t forget” became a motto of heart and conscience for every Greek. I say it clearly: “I don’t forget” is not forgotten. he added.

The former prime minister also “nailed” his eternal internal party rival Dora Bakoyannis for the proposal to the Council of Europe for Kosovo, from which both the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, and Maximou have already distanced themselves.

“The unheard of things that happened recently with the resolution on Kosovo do not express Greece and Hellenism! And it would be more important to deal with the 50 years instead of involving Hellenism in dangerous paths, as with the resolution on Kosovo…”, Mr. Samaras specifically commented.
