The residents in southern Rethymnon and especially in the areas of Rodakinos and Sellia are rightly worried about what will be done with the restoration of the gorge in Kotsifos after the big landslide, which effectively keeps the area blocked off (on one side).
Since then, vehicles have been passing through the Kourtaliotikos gorge, with all the inconvenience and time it entails.
Now, and given that the Region and the Directorate of Technical Services have in their hands the study done by the study group of Professor Mr. Roughly and have set two goals: first finding financing and second selecting a contractor. And the effort is continuous and does not stop.
Speaking to K.E. the deputy governor of Rethymno Mary Lioni he reiterated that the goal is for the project to be even and offer safety and that is why the selection of the appropriate contractor, specialized in such projects, must be made. And contacts are already being made by the Technical Services Directorate with prospective contractors.
In terms of funding, the Regional Governor Stavros Arnautakis and the deputy governor of Rethymno Ms Lion is in constant contact with the Ministry of Finance and the minister’s office Kostis Hatzidakis, who is also aware of the matter and has pledged that the required credit will be approved.
Let us remind you that this is a large and particularly expensive project, since it is certain that much more than one million euros is required, given that not only was there a landslide and it is necessary to remove the bases and install rock fences, but also a significant part of the road was destroyed .
The technical service hopes that the project will take three months to execute, if it actually starts.
