Thessaloniki: Appeal for help for 19-year-old Michalis

In its post, the Charity Organization states that:

“The life of 19-year-old Michalis was turned upside down about 5 months ago, when he collided with a passing vehicle while riding his motorcycle. Michalis was immediately transferred to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where the doctors fought a huge battle to keep him alive. Tests revealed multiple fractures to his ribs and spine, and he had to undergo chest drainage due to internal bleeding.

» During his hospitalization, Michalis had to undergo 3 surgeries on his spine, while he remained in the intensive care unit for 3 whole months. For the last 2 months, Michalis has been hospitalized in a Rehabilitation Center, where he is undergoing an intensive program of physical therapy exercises, which will allow him to strengthen the muscles of his lower limbs, so that he can gradually stand on his feet. At the same time, he is undergoing speech therapy and attempts are being made to remove the tracheostomy and the nasogastric tube.

As is understandable, Michalis still has a long way to go and will need to stay at the Center for many more months. Michalis’ family is unable to cope with the exorbitant cost of his hospitalization and has found itself in an impasse. Recently, his parents turned to ACT OF LOVE. The Medical and Social Service of the Organization contacted the medical staff of the Center, as well as the doctors of the hospital where he was treated, and immediately organized this campaign, which will allow Michalis to complete his rehabilitation program.

Michalis is only 19 years old. He has his whole life ahead of him. If he manages to continue his treatments, he will be able to return to his daily life. To his family. All he asks of us is to give him a chance to fight and stand up! All together, we can do it!”
