The unique beauties of Central Greece, culminating in the royal stage with the uphill finish in Velouhi, in the Municipality of Karpenisi, as well as the coastal finish on the beach of Chalkida, will be highlighted by this year’s PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024!
THE Deputy Minister of Sports Yannis Vroutsis by District Governor Fanis H. Spano and the representatives of all the Municipalities, through which the Tour runs this year, were impressed by the details revealed by the president and the Marketing Director of Cycling Greece, Giorgos Leventakis and Takis Xouris respectively, regarding the two stages (race routes) hosted by Central Greece .
The royal stage in Velouchi, with heights envied by major international Cycling Tours of the world, is likely to decide this year’s winner, and it is certain that now the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024 is raising the level with the design of the specific route that has already attracted the interest of the global cycling community!
“People in Central Greece will have the opportunity to watch high-level competitive road cycling, and especially Velouhi will steal the show, as will of course Chalkida, which today hosts us here to present the Tour,” said the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yiannis Brutsis and continued:
“In less than 3 weeks Greece, the country that gave birth to the Olympic Games and sports, will start the PPC International Cycling Tour 2024, a major sports-tourism event rated 2.1 by the World Federation.
This year, for the first time, it will start from Thessaloniki, which will host the official presentation of the teams on May 14 and the competition program on May 15, with an individual time trial and shortly after that a smaller stage will begin that will finish in Katerini.
From there, the group of cyclists will cross the country to Athens, where on May 19, the last race will take place, starting at the Acropolis and ending at the emblematic Kallimarmaro!
This is a major sports initiative of global interest and we Greeks who gave birth to sports must make it our comparative advantage.”
On the same wavelength was the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, who welcomed Mr. Vroutsis and noted:
“We firmly support the EKO Rally Acropolis and the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024 because we believe in the power and dynamics of Sports. We consider the Tour to be a hugely important sporting event, with global value and multiple benefits for the Municipalities, through which the 120 professional athletes – cyclists will pass.
This year, as a Region, we asked that special importance be given to the city of Chalkida. A request that was accepted by Minister Yannis Vroutsis and his associates. We believe that Chalkida has a lot to give to the Cycling Tour, but also to reap benefits from the event.
Our 8 Municipalities that will host the event on their streets are ready to welcome the cyclists, but also to involve the citizens, developing parallel actions to communicate this great sporting event.
Central Greece is investing in yet another international sports event, because it considers Sports to be a vehicle for promoting values in societies, but also for their economic development.”
After the press conference in the local media of Central Greece, all the representatives of the Municipalities developed the programs of the parallel events that have been buttoned on the occasion of the Tour, while the director of Parallel Actions of Cycling Greece Thanos Georgiou analyzed how the “huge party in Veluhi for the spectacular finish”.
The Press Conference held in the Hall of the Regional Council in Chalkida was attended by:
- The Mayor of Chalkide, Elena Vaka,
- The Mayor of Karpenisi, Christos Kakkavas,
- The Mayor of Makrakomi, Giorgos Hatzis
- The Mayor of Aliartou, Giorgos Arapitsas
- The rural vice-regional governors of Evia, Evrytania, Boeotia and Fthiotida
- Representatives of the Municipalities of Livadea, Thebes, Lamia, Amfikleia – Elatea, the Greek Police, the Hellenic Red Cross, the Health Facilities.
- For their part, all the Mayors Vaka Mayor of Chalkida
- The Mayors and the representatives of the Municipalities mentioned the many parallel actions they are preparing with the students of their Schools on the Cycling Greece plan, they thanked for the opportunity given to them to participate in the organization and promised a lot of people in the sprints as well as in the starts and the terminations of the cities.
