The double identity of artificial intelligence was mentioned by Toli Lerios, Serial Entrepreneur, who from the OT studio at the exhibition of innovation and technology Beyond in Thessaloniki, spoke about the crucial role of the human himself in how we will approach such a tool.

Every technology has its pros and cons, he says. “We must suffer to learn. And Greece itself suffered the same, when it had to go through an entire financial crisis, to shrink, to suffer, so that it would return after so many years more positive and with the knowledge of how to spend more carefully.”

Threat or opportunity?

“It depends on how we approach it,” he points out. “And AI is an ambiguous innovation – like the hammer used to both help build and destroy. It is a big challenge for all of us, about what choices we will make. For example, AI in the public sector will improve the services provided to citizens, but without at the same time giving the opportunity to improve the existing problem with bureaucracy.”

“And Greece can”

“Every country can develop into a technological hub – this also concerns Greece under certain conditions. However, it is also a country that can have an advantage in the development of artificial intelligence, as it has a huge bureaucracy, a huge amount of data that it can sort out,” explained Toli Lerios. “Just think about how much data is being collected that could be used to create algorithms.”

However, the business environment is fragmented, he emphasizes, adding that our country should learn from the examples of ancient history and work more collectively. “There are very strong individual efforts from university institutions and the state itself – but we have to remember where the strength comes from, from unity, from cooperation.”

“And on top of that, the presence of the Greek scientists who were abroad should also work. The State does not need to treat them as a brain drain that needs to be won back. But as ambassadors of know-how and knowledge and to utilize them as is done now or even to extend a hand to them to return but in an environment where they can offer as they can”.

every year the fair grows not only in terms of the number of exhibitors but the quality, and we can see it in how the identity of the visitors is formed – this year they are much younger, so I think that Beyond is in the right direction
