Evripidis Stylianidis openly supports the candidacy of Beleris for the European Parliament

--

With the son of the imprisoned Mayor of Chiemarra, Freddy Beleris, the Member of Parliament for Rodopi of New Democracy and the representative of Greece at the Council of Europe, Euripides Stylianides, met.

Petros Beleris who studied TEFAA in Komotini informed the former minister about the situation his father is facing, about his unjust imprisonment, about the illegal refusal of the Albanian Government Edi Rama to allow him to assume his duties in the Municipality even though they were not taken away from him civil rights. He conveyed the greetings and thanks of his father and the entire Greek minority of Albania for his initiative to raise the issue to the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe and to achieve, after hard negotiation, the acceptance of the relevant terms in the Organization’s Report on Albania, i.e. that “if he does not accept the conditions for the protection of the rights of the Greek National Minority of Northern Epirus, he will return to a strict regime of monitoring by the International Organization”.

He supports the Beleris candidacy

Euripides Stylianides asked him to convey his greetings to the imprisoned minority mayor, to congratulate him on his courage and combativeness and to express to him the support of all of us in his fight for justice: “The candidacy of the imprisoned mayor of the Greek minority as an MEP of the New Democracy sensitizes and mobilizes all of us, not only as fellow Greeks but also as Europeans who believe in the rule of law and the rights of minorities. As a Thracian MP who has been fighting for an open democratic society in my country that fully respects human and minority rights, I have additional reasons to support your struggles for a similar treatment of the Greek Minority in Albania. That is why I believe that the election of Freddy Belleris as an MEP will provide the opportunity for this policy to become a European priority. Happy Freedom and Happy Victory…”.

Euripides Stylianides invited Petros Beleris to visit Rhodope before the elections and offered him three books to take to his father. His book on the 2019 Constitutional Review on Democracy and Human Rights, his book on Thrace as a Model of Open Democratic Society and Modern Minority Politics and an earlier Scrapbook of photographs from Kosmas Aitolos’ school in Chimarra that he completed and despite the threats and dangers against him, he inaugurated as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece as well as the Homeri schools of Kortsa and Arsakeio of Tirana which he implemented despite the difficulties of the time.

The son of the imprisoned mayor and MEP candidate of the New Democracy, in an emotional atmosphere, accepted the invitation and thanked the Thracian politician for his lifelong contribution to the Hellenism of Northern Epirus, promising to give his father in prison the books he offered him in order to read them.
