The Local Civil Protection Coordinating Body of the municipality of Central Corfu met today at noon with the participation of the mayor St. Poulimenos, the vice-mayors of civil protection and tourism, the head of the civil protection office, the administrator of the hospital as well as executives of the fire department, the police, the Coast Guard, archaeology, volunteer groups, etc.
During the meeting, it was emphasized the need for all services to be ready in view of the start of the fire fighting season, given the dense vegetation on the island and the low rainfall indicators observed during the winter.
Reference was also made to the overseas islands and islets (Vido, Lazaretto, Pontikonissi) and specifically to possibility of immediate intervention using floating means, in case of an emergency.
Among other things, the Coordinating Local Body of Civil Protection also occupied the Mont Repo estate, which needs, as was said, to be further cleaned, while it was requested to carry out a fire service exercise in the specific area in the next period.
