New facts in North Macedonia’s relations with Greece are likely to create the new political scene that is taking shape in the neighboring country, as the double elections – presidential and parliamentary – emerge as the winner of the nationalist VMRO party that was in the opposition. Already, the candidate for the party’s president, Gordana Silianovska, achieved a sweeping victory in the first round of the presidential elections, while the parliamentary elections are next on May 8, where it is estimated that the balances that will be formed in the Parliament of Skopje will be similar.

Interestingly, pre-election rumors were heard from VMRO that it would seek to annul the Prespa Agreement, however it remains highly doubtful if it can actually happen. The warning addressed by the outgoing president of the country, Stevo Pendarovski, is typical that North Macedonia will be at risk of expulsion from NATO and interruption of its European course if this happens. And the fact is that in any case, international agreements cannot be canceled unilaterally, as we heard something like this in 2019 and in Greece during the pre-election period, with the current Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasizing his disagreement with the Prespa Agreement, but to state clearly that it cannot be annulled.
