Struggle by the Union of Hotel Baths of Ypatis for the abandonment of the thermal spring

They are asking for the assistance of the new municipal authority…

Iulia Alexakis and Giorgos Gletsos, President and Secretary of the Union of Hoteliers of Hypatis Baths, expressed their concern and anxiety about the decline of the Hypatis Baths at the Lamia Municipal Council meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

The two representatives of the Union initially informed the Municipal Council about the chronic problems of the Thermal Spring, which are due to the complete lack of stable and timely planning of the operating time of the hydrotherapy facilities and the absence of elementary investments, by the Public Real Estate Company (ETAD), which manages them.

As they pointed out, the beginning of the tourist season is accompanied, for the umpteenth time, by the uncertainty and the cloudy landscape regarding the exact schedule of the operation of the Source, highlighting the timeless abandonment of Loutropolis by the previous Municipal Authorities.

“This uncertainty negatively affects the orderly operation of our businesses, given that the most important factor that affects tourist traffic in our area does not offer the possibility of elementary planning, while, in addition, it creates a sad impression on visitors, when they see an image of tragic abandonment and unbearable decline“, they said characteristically and asked for the assistance of the current Municipal Authority “for catalytic and dynamic intervention towards the Central Administration, to arrest the decadent reality».

Finally, the Mayor was asked to inform the Hotel Association about the following:

• what is the position and the will of the Municipality, for immediate intervention in the short-term, but also long-term, operation regime of the hydrotherapy facilities in Loutra Ypatis?

• what is the strategic position of the Municipality regarding the possible claim of the long-term concession from TAIPED, of the operation of the Thermal Spring?

• what are the promotion actions planned by the Municipality of Lamia, for the thermal tourism of its area of ​​responsibility and, in particular, for the Baths of Ypatis?
