Theatre, music and dance are the primary forms of performing arts, directly linked to human creativity. Subsequently, based on these forms and in various combinations, various manifestations were created, which over time evolved expressing the existential, social and cultural quests of each era. Free screening of the historical film “Astero” with live piano accompaniment

The Saturday, April 27, the B&E Goulandris Foundation in collaboration with the Film Archive of Greece will host at Amphitheater of the Foundation the screening of the historical film by the Gaziadis brothers “Astero”, with live accompaniment on the piano by the composer and Director of the Music Schools of the Athens Conservatory Filippos Tsalachouris.

“Astero”, a pastoral romance shot on the peaks of Kalavryta in 1929, is the first major commercial and artistic success of Greek cinema and is a bucolic look at Greece at the beginning of the 20th century through the lens of the Gaziadis brothers.

The live accompaniment of the silent film with piano, which for decades was the only practice, gives drama and intense emotionality, but it is extremely difficult and laborious work for the pianist due to the long duration of the films. More difficult, however, is watching the film carefully, in order to have a correct rhythmic and dramatic synchronization.

Philippos Tsalachouris, who will accompany the film live on the piano, reviving the practice of screenings at the beginning of cinema history, composed the music after a request from the Film Archive of Greece.
