European elections: Kyriakos Mitsotakis raises the gauntlet – Percentage below 33%…

--

In the journalists’ persistent question about the where New Democracy sets the threshold for the European electionsthe prime minister answered in his interview with SKAI, showing the result of the 2019 election ballot box.

33.1% is the threshold for Kyriakos Mitsotakis, having a double goal: to rally blue and disaffected blues in achieving this percentage, but also to have the answer ready on the evening of June 9 for those who argue that New Democracy lost 8 points compared to the result of the national election ballot of June 2023.

In Piraeus and also in Megaros Maximos they have known for months that 41% of the recent national elections is a difficult targetbecause the European elections are always treated more “relaxed” perhaps even indifferently by the citizens, while they do not ignore that for their party opponents the comparison of the two results will be… butter on their bread, so that they can talk easily on Sunday night about defeat of the New Republic.

But as we march towards the day of the Eurocalp, in the blue camp there is optimism that the result will have the number 3 in front, a fact that is reinforced by the recent opinion polls, but also the research done by Megaros Maximos itself, finding – despite any dissatisfaction even among the blue-collar voters – trends of consolidation that can shape a good election result, similar to that of 2019.

After all, that result, they say, then brought victory in the July 2019 national elections, with New Democracy coming in first, winning 39.8%.

The advantage and the disadvantage

“At the moment we have a disadvantage and an advantage at the same time. We don’t have national elections or regional and municipal elections, so mobilizing people is more difficult. On the other hand, because we have European elections isolated from another national ballot box, it is much easier to talk for Europe. So, I think that the logical measure of comparison is the results of the previous European elections”, said the prime minister in his full-length interview yesterday with SKAI and Sia Kosionis.

Addressing citizens who may be thinking of voting for a party to the right of New Democracy, because they may feel dissatisfied with the government’s choices, the prime minister asked them to see the big picture, and “not to use the European elections as an opportunity for an easy and inexpensive protest”, knowing that if the result is not good for the blue camp the opposition will insist on pressing the issue of early elections. As Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his interview, if the result of the European elections is not so good, “the government will not collapse, our life will just become a little more difficult”, excluding, however, an early appeal to the polls.

The far right …arbitrary apartment building

The prime minister placed three parties in the far-right apartment building. “Each of these three parties in a different form represents something extreme,” he said, taking more aim at the Spartans, who recently dropped out of the race. Kyriakos Mitsotakis argued that the decision of the Supreme Court stepped on regulations voted and supported in the Parliament by the ND, but also through the recent memoranda, “when some others forgot to submit them”, pointing to SYRIZA.

“Fascism cannot be fought only with words, it must be faced with actions. We were on the right side of history in this case,” he said characteristically, without leaving unaddressed the …admonitions of K. Velopoulos that those who voted for same-sex marriage should not go of couples in the Church, speaking of unacceptable and divisive statements.
