“It is not too late for Ukraine to win” the war against Russia, provided the West keeps its promises to supply it with more weapons, the head of NATO said today.

“In recent months, his allies NATO they didn’t provide the support” they had promised, said Mr Jens Stoltenberg in a speech during an awards ceremony in Berlin for transatlantic relations.

“But it is not too late for Ukraine to win, as stronger support is on the way,” the NATO secretary general added.

“It is now our responsibility to turn the commitments” (recently given by the West, s.s.) into actual deliveries of arms and ammunition, and to do so quickly,” he stressed.

Stoltenberg, however, welcomed the endorsement from the Congress of the large US military aid package to Ukraine amounting to more than $60 billion, as well as commitments to the same end made by other countries, including Britain, Germany and the Netherlands.

At the same time, Stoltenberg criticized China, accusing Beijing of “supporting Russia’s war economy” with cutting-edge technologies that can be used to produce missiles, tanks and planes.

“China says it wants to maintain good relations with the West. At the same time, Beijing continues to fuel the biggest armed conflict in Europe since World War II,” he said.

“They can’t have both the butter and the money for the butter,” pointed out Stoltenberg, who was awarded the Eric Warburg prize in Berlin, which honors figures who have worked particularly hard for transatlantic relations.

Berlin and Beijing have traditionally had close economic ties, with German companies investing heavily in China and heavily exporting goods to the world’s second-largest economy.
