He made 100k playing Candy Crush on the train

The New Yorkers suffer some of the longest commute times in the U.S., but one Long Island resident, Jay Simunovich, wishes his commute took longer.

This is because his dedication to the mobile game Candy Crushwith which he is employed on the train to and from his work, has so far yielded him over 100,000 dollarsas written by New York Post.

“My commute takes about 45 minutes, so once I get on the Hempstead Line from Floral Park to Penn Station, I get lost in the world of Candy CrushJay said.

By day, 52-year-old Simunovic works as a fiber optic technician, but before and after his shift, he trains as the official Candy Crush World Champion after winning the tournament Candy Crush All-Stars of 2023. And he plans to do it again this year.

Since 2012, Jay has used his daily commute via the Long Island Rail Road as an excuse to play his favorite game, Candy Crush Saga, a habit that helped him win $100,000 last year as a prize.

This year’s global online competition, open to adults who reach level 25 and above, began on March 28 and ends on April 28. The best player will get the biggest prize to date, 1 million dollars.

Jay is even so devoted to the game, that sometimes he faces problems in his daily life. “There were a few times when he had ‘absorbed’ me, I would look up and realize that I had lost my attitude“, he said.

As for what he does with his earnings? He “lives” it of course. He recently bought tickets to the music festival Power Tripwith “denominators” such as AC/DC, Guns’ N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica and Tool, while he does not neglect his marital duties either, having given his wife a new, fully equipped kitchen.
