Mitsotakis: The opposition is turning the European elections into a referendum against…

--

“Everyone should think very carefully if we really want parties in the Parliament, which advocate brutal violence and intolerant racist speech with division and hatred” invited the voters through an interview granted tonight to the main bulletin of SKAI by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Asked to comment on yesterday’s episode between MPs Floros and Grammenos in the Parliament, Mr. Mitsotakis noted that “yesterday’s episode is chilling and revealing. The temple of the Republic cannot be boxing arena. I want to congratulate the President of the Parliament for his reaction”.

The prime minister emphasized that this particular episode is revealing about what is happening in the area of the far-right apartment building and spoke of a patchwork of parties set up with lies and violence. In fact, he accused SYRIZA of forgetting to submit a memorandum against the participation of the “Spartiates” party, stressing that this particular party is out of the electoral process thanks to a regulation voted for and supported by New Democracy, stressing that fascism is not only fought with words but also with actions and recalling that SYRIZA co-governed with the extreme right of Panos Kammenos, as he characteristically said.

Referring to the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, the prime minister accused him of commercialization of the Christian faith characterizing as unacceptable and divisive the exhortations not to visit the temples by all those who voted in favor of the legalization of civil marriage equality. “They cannot say that they represent the faith, they also got answers from the Church” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In fact, referring again to yesterday’s incident of hand-to-hand between the two MPs, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that “anyone who saw what happened in Parliament reaches the conclusion as to whether these parties are representatives of Christianity and patriotism. There are many freshwater patriots“. The prime minister insisted that the ruling party is against the Spartans from the first moment and through specific actions and declared himself justified “by the fact that this particular formation is excluded from the European elections”.

The prime minister addressed the voters, who are considering voting for parties to the right of the ND, calling on them to see the overall picture and not resort to “cheap messages”.

“We are raising the gauntlet of the European elections”

Responding to the electoral dilemmas he is raising ahead of the European elections, the prime minister emphasized that the government takes up the gauntlet when the other parties turn the European elections into a referendum against the government, assuring that we will continue our work with the same momentum.

Mr. Mitsotakis characterized versatile the ND’s European ballot paper and insisted that he wants the best possible electoral result, setting as a threshold for the upcoming European elections the percentage obtained by the ND in the previous European elections. “What interests me is to elect as many MEPs as possible,” he said. In case of a negative result, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that “I already hear the requests for early elections, but it is paradoxical that someone asks for early elections, when he has a threshold of 17%, but this does not concern me. We want the best result, but if it is not good, our life will become more difficult, neither the government will fall nor we will have elections”.

“Moderately optimistic that we will end fan violence”

Asked about the ongoing investigation into fan violence, the prime minister noted that “it is difficult for me to comment on a judicial investigation, we have done many things to combat fan violence, but sometimes a few drops break the camel’s back. What I can say is that a very thorough investigation was conducted with great secrecy. I have confidence in the Justice that the physical and moral perpetrators will be punished wherever they are.”

He insisted that the situation on the pitches is better today and reiterated that we will punish the guilty. “For the first time we have every reason to be modestly optimistic that we will end fan violence. When the state wants to impose legality it can do so,” Mr. Mitsotakis pointed out.

“Punch in the stomach, Sunday’s murder”

Asked about Sunday’s murder outside the Agioi Anargyro police station, the prime minister spoke of “great sadness and great anger because it was a punch in the stomach”.

Mr. Mitsotakis clarified that everything went wrong characterizing what became a tragedy, however, he estimated that it is also an incident of great awakening, noting that in April alone we have 1245 arrests for domestic violence. “In memory of Sunday we have an obligation to run faster”, he said characteristically.

Accuracy

The prime minister acknowledged again that accuracy is a very big problem. “I know that there are households that are being tested and the macroeconomic figures do not concern them,” he noted. He emphasized, however, that the government policy shows results and a certain improvement in terms of transparency and price control.

“If there was a magic formula against punctuality some other country would have found it. Wages are rising because the economy is doing well, taxes have been significantly reduced, there is emergency aid and our emphasis is always on the most vulnerable, the welfare state is “present “, the prime minister pointed out and estimated that “the better the economy goes, the more wages will increase. There are signs that inflation is easing. Competition is one answer. It worked on the electricity bills. Energy prices are lower because competition has worked, and because we have supported households. We also had European support”, emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

He promised, in fact, that the government will not stop market controls reminding that they have been imposed fines even in large multinational companies.
