Action entitled “Fake news in the modern era” | The presentation of the results from the European workshop (vid)

The Municipality of Tripoli organized and coordinated the action entitled “Fake news in the modern era”.

The action concerned the presentation of the works and the “evaluation” of the educational discussion between the countries of the European Union with the aim of eliminating misinformation. At the event, ideas were exchanged with the aim of eliminating fake news.

The event took place on Thursday, April 25 at the Malliaropoulio Theater and was open to the public, who wanted to gain knowledge, but also to propose ideas.

In her greeting, Eleni Karuntzou, Deputy Mayor for Culture, said, among other things: “I am glad that this event is taking place here in our city, because who hasn’t happened – and especially public figures – to be targeted by fake news. Fake news is a type of yellow press. The scourge of fake news is not a new phenomenon. In the age of online information, false information spreads faster and can lead to wrong conclusions.”

The presentation of experiences from the European Workshop was undertaken by Ioanna Roussou, while the presentations of journalists about Fake News followed (Elli Artopoulou, Kalimera-Arkadia.gr / Menia Lili, Radio Arcadia 93.8 / Triantafyllos Sotiropoulos, President of the Association of Municipal Radio and Television Media of Greece)

The action was part of the European project EUCOMMvsDISINFO, following the First International Workshop entitled “Disinformation and external interference as a threat to the democratic debate”, which took place in May in Larnaca, Cyprus, and the Municipality of Tripoli participated as a partner. The project involves partners from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain and Poland.
