The Municipal Council of the Municipality of Larissa decided during its meeting today to abolish the Home for the Elderly of the Neapolis district, the 2nd KAPI and the Singles’ KAPI.

According to the proposal of the vice-mayor for Social Policy, Mr. Panagiotis Dalampyra, the reasons for abolishing the operation of the Elderly Shelter of the Neapolis district is due to the fact that “there is no attendance of elderly people, because they are served at the elderly shelter located in a neighboring district (Livadaki) and activities are provided such as dance, gymnastics, medical coverage, etc. For the structure of KAPIF Eleftherones, it is due to the fact that since the beginning of its operation until today there has been zero participation of the elderly.

The abolition of the specific structures for the above reasons will bring about a financial benefit for the Municipality of Larissa from the rental costs which amount to around €7,980 for both structures, plus their maintenance and operation costs”.

The abolition of the above two Structures brought the reaction of the municipal councilors of the opposition who emphasized that ways must be sought to utilize the KAPI in another way. The head of the Larisaean Solidarity, Mr. Dimitris Deligiannis spoke of a “rough proposal” while the head of the People’s Rally, Mr. Petros Krikis, emphasized that the KAPIs cannot function without parallel programs running in them.

The matter passed with the votes of the Municipal Authority, while the possibility of looking for an alternative place for KAPI in Neapolis was left open.
