France requests CROTALE from Greece to reinforce the defenses of Paris

The possibility of Greece reinforcing France with the CROTALE anti-aircraft array is in the foreground, so as to ensure the security of the Paris airspace during the Olympic Games in Paris.

As said by Pavlos Marinakis answering a related question: “If requested by our allies for a specific period of time, in this case, the Olympic Games, some specific assistance which in no way affects the defense capability of the country, this will be done, but always after coordination and agreement between the two sides. But we are always talking, I make it clear, about a limited specific period of time. When there is more, you will obviously be informed.”

Request to transfer the systems

According to the Kathimerini newspaper, the French authorities have submitted a request for the transfer of an array of short-range mobile anti-aircraft systems CROTALE of the Air Force, on the grounds of its use for the duration of the Paris Olympic Games. The French side hints that if Paris intends to concede anti-aircraft systems in Ukraine, it needs allied assistance to ensure air defense of critical infrastructure inside the Olympic capital.

What we know about CROTALE

The CROTALE NG/GR system is French made and joined the PA in 2003. It is an all-weather mobile short-range anti-aircraft (SHORAD) system. The system integrates in a cage the RADAR investigation and confinementthe FLIR system, the fire control system as well as the missile launcher.

The mission of the system is to provide A/A protection of tactical and strategic objectives from air threats with the ability to counter missiles and missiles at low and medium altitudes.

The system is mounted on a towed vehicle and has Research RADAR, 20 km rangeinterception RADAR/FLIR with a range of 20 km and a launcher with two carriers of (4) four missiles each.
