Conference in Piraeus on German reparations with the co-organization and participation of the Municipality of Viannos

With the participation and co-organization of the Municipality of Viannos, an important Conference on German debts is being held in Piraeus.

Specifically, as decided, on June 1st, the Day will be held that will be dedicated to “German debts from the Nazi atrocities during the German Occupation”, at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus.

The initiative for this event was taken by the Piraeus Bar Association, through which it aims to highlight once again the specific issue, on the occasion of the completion of 80 years since the liberation of the country from the German yoke.

In fact, as part of the preparation for the proper organization of the Conference on “German debts from the Nazi atrocities during the German Occupation”, a meeting was held at the offices of the Piraeus Bar Association with the participation of the Mayor Viannos Mr. Pavlos Baritakis, the Mayor of Piraeus and Ioannis Moralis, the Mayor of Kalavryta, Aegialia and Erymanthos, Mr. Athanasios Papadopoulos, and the Mayor of Arachova and Antikyra, Mr. Ioannis Statha, during which a series of issues were raised regarding the successful implementation of the Conference.

It is noted that the National Council for Claiming German Debts and the Panhellenic Association of Lawyers for German Compensation have been invited to participate in this event, as well as the former President of the Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos. While the Bar Associations of Heraklion, Kalavryta and Distomo will also participate.

“The question of the payment of German reparations cannot be forgotten, nor can it remain in obscurity. The German reparations for the atrocities of the Viannites and all Greeks in general, are neither statute-barred, nor will they cease to be a field of claim, as a minimal tribute to the memory of the victims of the Nazi Occupation. We have the obligation for our ancestors who were massacred and executed by the Nazis to continue the struggle until justice is achieved,” said Mr. Baritakis, who during the meeting once again congratulated the members of the Piraeus Bar Association and especially the president Mr. Ilias Clappa for this initiative.

After the end of the Conference, the conclusions that are expected to be drawn will be forwarded to the Greek State and the Greek parties in order to make further moves in the direction of the vindication and payment of the German reparations.
