The Olympic Flame was welcomed today at the Rio-Antirrio Bridge by the officers of the Bridge, the Minister of Transport Christos Staikouras, the Deputy Ministers Nikos Tachiaos and Christina Alexopoulou, the Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis other officials and a lot of people.
The first torchbearer who received the flame from Messolongi at the beginning of the Bridge, handed it over to the famous basketball player Panagiotis Giannakis who touched the Altar. After the welcoming ceremony, the bronze Olympic medalist of rhythmic gymnastics Irini Aindili received the flame and, heading to Patras, she handed it over to Fotis Adrachtas from Nafpaktos, who is a person with mobility problems.
At the same time, the Bridge celebrated its 20th anniversarya her birthday by organizing an event that has a semiotic character as the Olympic Flame had also passed through the Bridge in 2024 which coincided with the opening of its operation and the Athens Olympics. This year was spent for the Paris Olympics, which marks the collaboration between Greece and France for the great achievement of the construction of the Bridge, but also the Greek-French friendship, as most of the speakers said.
The reception of the Olympic Flame was emotional as the whole ceremony was performed with the performance of the National Anthems of the two countries as well as the Olympic Anthem, by the soprano Gina Foteinopoulou and the Choir of the “Kotronis” Modern Schools, with piano accompaniment by Zizi Korkontzelou.
