Ioannina Municipality Employees’ Association: “The problems remain”

The Ioannina Municipality Employees’ Association had a meeting with the mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Bega, the deputy mayor of Cleanliness, Makis Chrysostomou, and the general secretary of the Municipality, Kostas Babasikas, about the situation in cleanliness.

The association, in its relevant statement, states that since the previous meeting with the general secretary “absolutely nothing has progressed”, i.e. studies for the removal of objects from the construction site, the payment of the workshops for the repairs of the vehicles and project machinery, while 8 of the 12 new garbage trucks have not yet been put into service.

According to the association, the municipal authority said it did not want confrontational relations, but “was negative even to answer when the 2024 night work and overtime allowances will be paid and had to be preceded by a half-hour discussion to communicate with the authorities to answer that they will be paid today”.

Ultimately, the association says that “the municipal authority bears full responsibility for the discredit of the cleaning service. The new narrative of the municipal authority about delays due to the merger of the legal entities apparently cannot answer why the construction site – which has nothing to do with the legal entities – is being dismantled.”

Finally, he calls workers to the May Day strike.
