Not one, not two, but 314 Air Force bombs were found among many more ordnance, by TENX, the Land Mine Clearance Battalion, inside the old airport.

The above shocking revelation was made by Yiannis Constantatos, mayor of Ellinikos – Argyroupoli, through his post on social media, who even emphasized that the bombs were found “next to our houses”.

He also noted that the investigations are continuing and the above number is not the final one, regarding the bombs that were detected.

“After all, it’s a miracle that we live in this country,” he emphasized, among other things.

Bombs under kindergartens

“The tragedy of the case is that the 314 bombs, which had been stored by Germanswas 2 meters directly below the former facilities of the Pontian Sourmenian Union, our daycare centers and sports facilities, which were located within the former airport as well as next to the Olympic Facilities”, added Yiannis Constantatos.

“In places where thousands of people entered every day”, he added.

“Thank God, there was never any harm or explosion, while it’s really amazing how an entire Airport and dozens of Municipal and CAA facilities were operating in this minefield,” stressed the mayor.
