The new egg investments, private label and consumption trends – KEFALONITIS

Greeks are estimated to consume, per person, 170 – 180 eggs per year, number significantly lower than other countries such as the USA, Japan and the Netherlands, while approx one in two, is private label.

The total market at domestic retail trade is estimated at 100 million euros while important but unmeasurable, is the portion of the unpackaged egg. “If a Greek eats two eggs, one has been bought from the supermarket”, as he characteristically noted the vice president of the Epirotian Eggs, Mr. Panagiotis Fragoulis outlining the profile of the Greek consumer and the image of the domestic market.

In the context of a press briefing held on Wednesday, Mr. Frougoulis presented the company’s 10-year development plan totaling 30 million euros, which began in 2019 and reaches 2030. Having already completed its first phase, the company is launching new investments of 15 million euros for the next five years (2025-2030), which also include the creation of a second alternative breeding unit with a capacity of 200 thousand chickens, with the aim 70% of the production comes from cage-free hens.

At the same time, it focuses on the further development of Ovo Fresco, of the sister company which is active in the category of pasteurized egg products, planning investments related to the installation of new technological equipment and the creation of new refrigeration and storage areas, to strengthen of the production of new innovative egg products -such as, for example, frozen omelettes or boiled eggs, categories in which it is considering entering- as well as in strengthening autonomy.
