Yesterday’s development of the legal dispute over the flyover brought relief to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The decision of the Council of State not to accept the application for the suspension of the works submitted by the Association of Residents of the Constantinople Settlement, opens again from today the construction sites in the regional, after fifteen days that they remained inactive, after the temporary order to stop the of work issued by the president of the 5th Department of the CoE on April 9.

Now, everyone’s eyes are on May 22nd, the date on which the main appeal filed by the Association of Residents of the Constantinople Settlement, the Sheikh Sou Protection Committee and the Thessaloniki Health Runners Association has been set to be heard at the Supreme Court, with which they request cancel the project.

Since the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the rejection of the request for injunctive measures became known yesterday, speculations have begun as to whether this decision may prejudge the final judgment of the Supreme Court. As a reputable lawyer pointed out to me, “a safe assessment on this cannot be made, even more so when we do not yet know the reasoning behind this decision”. This will be communicated to the parties in the coming days and perhaps then, some estimates can be made. However, executives close to the project appeared yesterday optimistic that “the river of the flyover cannot turn back”. They pointed out that at least one more month will pass before the final judgment of the SC is issued, which means that the works will have progressed and another fact, which they believe, will weigh on the final decision of the supreme court. Let’s wait better…

The other legal front concerning the construction of two buildings on the well-known plots of land in Karabournaki remains active. I remind you that last Friday the Kalamaria municipal council in its extraordinary meeting decided to suspend the two building permits. The meeting was convened at the request of residents of the area, who have testified at Council of State request to cancel the permits issued by the municipal services for the two specific properties, where construction work has already progressed on one of them.

The decision of the municipal council was duly sent to the police department in order to take the appropriate action. In fact, on Tuesday, police officers delivered the decision to the engineer in charge of the project and yesterday morning they went to the disputed plots and asked the crew to stop the construction work, which was done. Now, how long that will last is unknown as the owners’ side appeals against the city council’s decision.

It took a while but it finally happened. I am referring to the restructuring of the board of directors of the long-suffering OSE, the new composition of which was made public on Monday. It was a decision by the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras and National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis which was delayed, it is true, by several months. The two ministers decided to replace five of the board members. keeping in his position only the managing director of the Organization, Panagiotis Terezakis, who had been appointed to this position a few days after the terrible accident in Tempe. The elected employee representative Thanasis Leventis remains in his position. Of the five new members, two are economists (Vassilis Giannakoulopoulos, Ioannis Petropoulos) and three are lawyers (Yiannis Grammatidis, Christina Vassilopoulou, Antigoni Papagelopoulou). Grammatidis is acting as president, a role previously held by former vice president Sayakou, who, I remind you, had resigned a month ago.

Whether or not the new management of the OSE will manage to reorganize the Organization and restore public confidence in the railway, that will be seen in the next period. The consolation, however, is that at least in this board there are no people completely unrelated to the subject. I remind you that in the previous one, among the members of the d.s. there was also a florist who even had a weighty say in certain matters.
